For example, an A4 sheet fo paper is 210 x 297mm and less than 1mm thick, First take the width (in this example 210mm) and add 2x the thickness (1mm) plus say an extra 1mm for safety - this allows for the paper to slide easily into the sleeve but be neat at either side. in the paper example we say a sleeve of 214mm is required. Then, take the length of the item. This time you need only add one thickness plus 1mm for safety as the item slides into the sleeve longwise.
